About
Laura’s House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises funds to help orphans, single-parent families, people with disabilities, and other people with needs in Tanzania, Africa.
Mission
It is our mission to help the vulnerable. This vulnerability may be short term, such as childhood or temporary illness or it may be long-term such as disability. This help may come in the form of finances, food, shelter, or education.
Core Values
- Human: We believe that each person we help is more than a statistic or a problem to be solved. They are a unique individual that is not defined by their current physical circumstances.
- Respect: Since each person is human, they deserve respect.
- Accountable: We work hard to put donor’s money into the hands of the people who need it most. To help do this, we aim to keep overhead as low as possible by utilizing volunteers.
- Organic: We partner with local workers and leaders to do the majority of our projects.
- Impartial: We make no discrimination as to race, religious beliefs, class, or political opinions.
History
Matt Derocher has been traveling on mission trips to Tanzania since the Fall of 2011. After his father passed away in 2015, he had the vision to start an orphanage in the Singida region of Tanzania. Construction on the first orphanage building started in 2021. In 2022 Laura’s House was created to be the organization behind the humanitarian work Matt was already doing. Laura’s House is named after Matt’s mother.
